Act 1 Overview
Act 1 — A Premonition of War. Ash investigates General Magnus’s disappearance as conspiracy stirs in Ishtaria. 6 story battles + the optional Nova Trial · Lv range 5–10 · joins: Eleni, Huxley, Kira, Grog. Nova Trial gives Vandalier Prism 1/6 — don’t skip it.

Battle Strategy
Opening Moves:
- Ash: Advance toward Zoot Gach (prioritize boss)
- Clint: Engage nearest Brigand (tank front line)
- Diego: Shoot Hunters from range (eliminate archers first)
Priority Targets:
- Hunters first - Ranged threats, low HP (12)
- Zoot Gach - Can self-heal, moderate threat
- Brigands last - Weakest enemies, clean up
Key Tactics:
- Diego should focus fire on Hunters (2-hit kills)
- Ash and Clint advance together (don’t split)
- Kill Zoot before he self-heals multiple times
- Remember: Zoot can restore ~10 HP per heal

Strategy: Reach-objective, not defeat-all. Push NE along the east edge; Diego shoots the flying War Ghosts blocking the path (archers deal bonus vs airmen). Skip needless fights — Ash reaching the church wins it.

Battle Strategy
Key Challenge: Flying enemies (War Ghosts) can bypass obstacles and attack from unexpected angles.
Opening Strategy:
- Diego: Shoot War Ghosts (archers deal bonus damage to airmen)
- Ash/Clint: Advance toward Church (NE corner)
- Don’t overcommit - This is a reach-objective battle, not defeat-all
Priority Targets:
- War Ghosts near your path - Eliminate threats blocking route
- Hunterips - If they’re blocking church approach
- Avoid unnecessary fights - Goal is church, not kills
Optimal Route:
- Head northeast along eastern edge
- Let Diego handle War Ghosts blocking path
- Ash reaches church to trigger victory (don’t need to kill all enemies)

Strategy: First Golem fight — DEF 37, so swords do only ~8–12. Win with magic: Eleni’s Dark Star (~25–35) and Ash’s Ice Storm bypass DEF. Focus one Golem at a time; physical units finish wounded ones (<20 HP). Keep Eleni protected.

Battle Strategy
CRITICAL BATTLE: This is your first encounter with Golems (high DEF enemies). Physical attacks do minimal damage!
The Golem Problem:
- Golem Defense: 37 (very high)
- Sword attacks: ~8-12 damage (inefficient)
- Eleni’s magic: ~25-35 damage (MUCH better)
- This battle teaches you to use magic!
Optimal Strategy:
- Eleni: Use Dark Star on Golems (primary damage dealer)
- Huxley: Heal Eleni, use staff attacks as backup
- Ash: Use Ice Storm (magic bypasses DEF)
- Clint/Diego: Physical attacks (chip damage only)

Strategy: Big force (12) with flying Hell Bats that reach your back line. Rounds 1–2: hold a defensive formation — Diego shoots Hell Bats (bonus vs airmen), Eleni Dark Stars clusters, Huxley heals. Round 3+: Kira arrives (E side) — she + Diego focus Hell Bats. Target order: Hell Bats → Hunters → Brigands.

Phase 1 (Rounds 1-2):

Goal: Defeat Death Ant (boss) · Lose: Ash dies · Lv: 9
Treasure: None
Strategy: Death Ant spawns Ant Arms endlessly (max 6, up to 4/round) — they give zero EXP/gold, so ignore them and send everyone at the Death Ant. DEF 55, so lead with magic: Eleni Dark Star, Ash Ice Storm; archers add safe ranged damage. Killing the Death Ant ends the fight and clears the adds (~5–7 rounds).

Battle Strategy
The Infinite Spawn Problem:
- Ant Arms respawn every round (up to 4 per round)
- Killing them wastes turns
- They give no rewards
- Ignore them, kill Death Ant only
Optimal Strategy:
- ALL UNITS TARGET DEATH ANT
- Ignore Ant Arms (they’re distractions)
- Burst damage Death Ant before it spawns too many adds
- Battle ends when Death Ant dies (Ant Arms disappear)
Damage Priority:
- Eleni: Dark Star on Death Ant (best damage)
- Ash: Ice Storm on Death Ant (magic damage)
- Diego/Kira: Shoot Death Ant (ranged safety)

- 55 DEF (very high - use magic!)

Strategy: Crowded ship deck; Hassan heals ~30 HP and has DEF 46. Phase 1: thin the adds — archers shoot Corsairs, knights hold the Buccaneers, Eleni Dark Stars, Huxley heals. Phase 2: swarm Hassan with magic and burst him from under 50% in 2–3 rounds so he can’t heal back to full.
